Types of Hazards
There are five types of workplace hazards:
Physical Hazards
Most common work place hazard and is often missed because of the regularity of seeing these hazards. It can be unsafe machines or unsafe environments that cause illness, injuries or death.
Chemical Hazards
Workplace hazards where a person is exposed to any chemical (solid, liquid or gas). These chemical materials can be flammable, explosive and poisonous.
Ergonomic Hazards
A Hazard where the body becomes strained from repetitive movements from a job or due to poorly designed workplace conditions.
Biological Hazards
Hazards produced by living things such as working with animals, viruses, infectious plant materials and people.
Psychosocial Hazards
This hazards includes Stress Factors and Violence produced from people or things in the workplace. Stress factors include conflict with colleagues, poor working conditions or heavy workloads. Violence includes threats, harassment and assault.
